¡Feliz Pascua!

¡Feliz Pascua!

Its crazy to say, but it has been a cool and rainy week here. I'm definitely not complaining though. It will get warm soon enough haha.

Last week, we stopped by some of the people that I taught when I was first here in Vía Verde. I was very surprised to find out that almost all of them have moved. We have also tried to get ahold of them by phone, but we haven't had much luck. We were looking through our list of people who have met with missionaries before, and we came across a man named Gari. We felt like we should call him, so we did. We ended up playing phone tag for a little bit then finally talked to him. He said that he was interested in meeting with us, and we set up a lesson for the next day. Gari has lots of struggles that he's facing, and he really wants to get closer to God. He had been to church a couple of times but never had a real lesson with missionaries. On Sunday, Gari walked to church in the rain. It was amazing to see that through all of the trials that he's experiencing and even in the rain, he was committed to come to church. He doesn't have a set schedule, but we are hoping to be able to have another lesson with him this week.

We had our first lesson with our friend BJ. The Sisters that were in the Shadow Mountain Ward last transfer started teaching him. He is so cool!! He currently attends another church, but he's super interested in the Book of Mormon. We had stopped by a couple days before our lesson in order to set it up and introduce ourselves. During that contact, he told us that he hadn't been able to read much of the Book of Mormon the week before but he would read some before our visit. We got to the visit and he told us that he had read all of 1 Nephi! We went over some questions that he had and talked more about where the Book of Mormon came from. He has lots of good questions, and the Spirit is so strong in his home!

We had a very special Easter. President and Sister Fisk invited us to their home for dinner along with some other missionaries. Its always amazing to be with the Fisks. It was especially neat to hear their testimonies of the Resurrection of Jesus Christ. During church, one of the speakers quoted some of Elder Joseph B. Wirthlin's talk titled Sunday Will Come. I had heard this talk before, but I decided to study it again later in the day. In it, Elder Wirthlin says, "The Resurrection is at the core of our beliefs as Christians. Without it, our faith is meaningless... I think of how dark that Friday was when Christ was lifted up on the cross. On that terrible Friday the earth shook and grew dark... I think that of all the days since the beginning of this world’s history, that Friday was the darkest. But the doom of that day did not endure. The despair did not linger because on Sunday, the resurrected Lord burst the bonds of death. He ascended from the grave and appeared gloriously triumphant as the Savior of all mankind... Each of us will have our own Fridays—those days when the universe itself seems shattered and the shards of our world lie littered about us in pieces. We all will experience those broken times when it seems we can never be put together again. We will all have our Fridays. But I testify to you in the name of the One who conquered death—Sunday will come. In the darkness of our sorrow, Sunday will come. No matter our desperation, no matter our grief, Sunday will come. In this life or the next, Sunday will come... Because of the life and eternal sacrifice of the Savior of the world, we will be reunited with those we have cherished. On that day we will know the love of our Heavenly Father. On that day we will rejoice that the Messiah overcame all that we could live forever." I testify that Jesus Christ lives. Because of Him, we can have the strength to endure our mortal challenges and deficiencies knowing that they are only temporary. Because He lives, death is not the end. I testify that Jesus Christ is the Savior of the world. He is also your personal Savior. He loves you. Because of Him, Sunday will always come. Of these things I testify in His name, Jesus Christ. Amen.

I love you all!

Con Amor,
Hermana Kendrick
