The Power Of The Book Of Mormon

Image
¡Hola amigos y familiares! It was a busy week with Zone Conference and lots of lessons with our friends. There is so much work to do in this area and its awesome!  Our friend Blanca and her two kids, Ashley and Gael, told us that they want to be baptized but aren't quite ready to set a date. Blanca is a little nervous about being baptized because her extended family isn't very supportive of her wanting to join our church. We had one of our lessons with Blanca at the Laytons house, and the Laytons did an amazing job of responding to some of her worries. We are continuing to pray that her and her kids will be ready to set a baptismal date soon.  Daniel and Marisol are doing so well! Last week, they told us that they are ready to change what they need to and commit to following Jesus Christ. They come to every church activity and refer to the branch members as their family. It has been so neat to see how quickly they connected with the branch, and now you would think that they...

The Sacrament

Hola hola a todos! Its starting to feel like spring here and its absolutely beautiful!  It was a very exciting week! The Río Salado Branch had its first ever Branch Conference yesterday. On Tuesday, we had a pre-branch conference dinner with the branch members, stake leaders, and our friends. On Sundays, the branch meets in the Relief Society room for Sacrament meeting since its still a pretty small group of people. When I first got to this area, we had about 20-25 people coming to Sacrament meeting in the branch each week, and that included the members of the branch. Yesterday, the room was so full that we barely had enough chairs for everyone. Its amazing to see the growth that has happened in just a few months. God truly is preparing the people in this area to receive to gospel. He has also softened the hearts of some inactive members of the branch and lead other members here from different areas. It is such a blessing to be able to serve here at this time and witness the miracl...

Applying The Scriptures To Our Lives

Hola a todos! Thursday was transfer day, and my new companion Hermana Conga is amazing! She's from Peru and is just starting to learn English. My Spanish abilities have definitely been stretched over the last week haha and I'm grateful for it! Hermana Conga is a convert to the church, and it has been so cool to see her use her experiences to help our friends.  We started teaching Daniel, Marisol, and Jesus. They came to both sessions of Stake Conference and loved it! They also attended a baptism of one of the Elders' friends Sunday night, and we had a lesson with them afterwards. The Spirit in the room during the baptism was incredibly strong. Daniel, Marisol, and Jesus told us that they felt the Spirit and want to be baptized! They have been through lots of hards things, and its amazing to see how much their life has already changed over the last couple of weeks as they have been learning about our church.  During Stake Conference, President Ward talked about Joseph Smith ...

The Holy Ghost

Hola a todos! I never thought I'd say it, but it has been a rainy week here in Mesa! I love the rain so it has been so fun. Its transfer week and we just got news last night that Hermana Shefchik is headed to Phoenix. I will be staying here in the Vineyard/ Río Salado area. Hermana Conga Robles is going to join me, and I'll be finishing her second transfer of training. These last six weeks flew by! There are lots of great things happening here right now and I'm excited for the next six weeks.  We finally had our first lesson with Ericia and it was awesome! She has an incredible testimony of the power of prayer. We introduced her to the Book of Mormon and she is super excited to start reading it. Unfortunately, she wasn't able to make it to church last Sunday because she's out of town for a few weeks, but we're planning to meet with her again when she gets back.  Hermano Montague, a member of the Spanish branch, makes bread every Sunday for the Sacrament. He invi...
