Personal Revelation
Hola hola!
It has been a very busy week here! We had lots of lessons with our friends and members of our ward and branch. A little background info on our friends Rebecca and Savannah... they live in the Mesa 20th Ward boundaries, and some Elders cover that area. However, they don't feel comfortable with men going over to teach them since its just them two in the house. The Elders talked to President Fisk, and he gave permission for me and Hermana Shefchik to teach Rebecca and Savannah. We had another lesson with them last week. We have been bringing women from the Mesa 20th Ward to our lessons and inviting Rebecca and Savannah to go to that ward. Rebecca attended church two Sundays ago, so we started our lesson by asking her how it went. She was excited to tell us that everyone was super welcoming and she felt the Spirit very strongly. She said that she picked up a book after church. We asked her which book, but she couldn't remember the name of it. She had looked through it a little bit and wanted to study it more. Savannah went to grab it and came back with a Come, Follow Me manual! Hermana Shefchik and I were so excited that that was the book she had grabbed. The Come, Follow Me manual is basically a study help for the Book of Mormon. It highlights some important principles taught in the Book of Mormon and has ideas and activities to help people study the scriptures. We showed Rebecca and Savannah how to use it and they are planning to start this week.
A couple of weeks ago, we stopped by a few different people who lived at the same apartment complex and had previously been taught by missionaries. After visiting them, we felt prompted to stay by a certain part of the apartment complex. We knocked on a couple of doors then a lady came up the stairs with her daughter. She was struggling to carry several bags of groceries. We asked if we could help her and she very quickly said she would love that. After carrying her groceries inside, we talked to her for a little while. Her name was Ericia and she had just moved in a week ealier. She saw our missionary tags then asked which church we were from and if she could join us the following Sunday. We said of course!! Somehow her phone number got messed up and she didn't get the message we sent her with the church address, so she didn't make it two Sundays ago. We figured it out though and she came yesterday! She made lots of friends and told everyone that she'll see them all again next week! We have our first lesson with her tonight.
As I've been thinking about our experience finding Ericia, I've thought a lot about personal revelation. After visiting all of the previously taught people at Ericia's apartment complex, Hermana Shefchik and I prayed to know what God wanted us to do next. We had made plans in another part of our area, but we wanted to ask God if we should stick to those plans or do something else. After praying, we felt that we needed to stay where we were. When speaking about personal revelation, President Boyd K. Packer said, "You have your agency, and inspiration does not—perhaps cannot—flow unless you ask for it, or someone asks for you. No message in scripture is repeated more often than the invitation, even the command, to pray—to ask. Prayer is so essential a part of revelation that without it the veil may remain closed to you. Learn to pray. Pray often. Pray in your mind, in your heart. Pray on your knees." He continued by saying, "Prayer is your personal key to heaven. The lock is on your side of the veil." I testify that these words are true. In order to receive personal revelation, we must pray. I would like to invite you all to make time to pray and talk with God this week. I know that He will give us direction and guide us, but we must ask Him for that direction and guidance. I testify that He loves you. He is your Father and He wants to hear from you. In the name of Jesus Christ, amen.
I love you all!
Con Amor,
