¡Feliz Halloween!

¡Feliz Halloween a todos!

Last week was amazing, and our friends are doing so well!

At the beginning of the week, we visited Deyby and Mike. We had planned what we were going to teach them, but when we got to their apartment, the Spirit told us that we needed to change our plans and read 3 Nephi chapter 18 with them. As we started explaining what that chapter is about, Deyby and Mike were amazed to hear that Jesus Christ visited the people in the Americas. They had never heard that before. We then understood why the Spirit told us to change our plans and read that chapter with them. It was amazing to help them see how the Book of Mormon teaches us more about Jesus Christ. We were also able to help them see how the Bible and Book of Mormon work together as we connected John 10:16 with 3 Nephi 15:21. They were so excited to have this new knowledge of Jesus Christ.

Our friend Keinis' husband, Maicol, works late and we hadn't met him until last week. We didn’t know that he would be there for our lesson, but he got done with work early and was able to join us! Our branch president, President Bennett, was also with us. It was an amazing lesson! Keinis and Maicol know a lot about the gospel of Jesus Christ and it was so cool to be able to add on to what they already knew. They came to church for their first time this past Sunday along with their daughter Zoe. They really enjoyed it, and Keinis even participated in Sunday school!

We invited a member named Hermana Larson to join us for our visit with Yrianni. Yrianni has only been here in Arizona for a few weeks, so she doesn't know many people yet. We have been trying to figure out who she would connect well with, and we were prompted to introduce her to Hermana Larson. They instantly became friends and connected even better than we imagined! It was amazing to see how the Lord used us as instruments in His hands to bring these two wonderful women together.

We went to the Trunk or Treat activity at the church on Saturday. There is a sweet family from India that lives in an apartment complex where some of our other friends live, and we see them every time we are there. When we were there last week, we invited them to the Trunk or Treat. The parents don't speak much English, but their daughter said that the activity sounded fun and that they would come. Sure enough, they all came! The daughter has two kids around 8 and 6 years old. They dressed up and had so much fun getting candy from all of the cars. Nohely, one of the people in our english class, also came and brought her husband, daughter, and 2 nieces! They all loved the activity! It was so fun to see these two families and some of our other friends connect with the members in our ward and branch. They were truly welcomed like family.

Over the past few weeks, I have been thinking a lot about the importance of being a committed disciple of Jesus Christ. Last week, I listened to a talk by Elder Larry W. Gibbons titled Wherefore, Settle This in Your Hearts. In his talk, Elder Gibbons explains that God did not give us commandments to restrict us, but to show His love for us. They are to keep us safe and allow us to experience joy in this life and the next. Elder Gibbons says "We cannot keep one foot in the Church and one foot in the world. One reason is the world and the Church are rapidly diverging. We will lose our balance... We know that 'no man can serve two masters.' Some, I fear, are attempting to do what President Marion G. Romney described as trying to 'serve the Lord without offending the devil.'" I know that it is possible for us to be in the world without being of the world. We know God's commandments and we have the Gospel of Jesus Christ. We must simply commit ourselves to act on this knowledge and be disciples of Jesus Christ at all times. My prayer is that as disciples of Jesus Christ, we realize that we are different from the world and that that is a good thing. I pray that we may have the courage to show others that we are different. I know that Heavenly Father loves you. He is proud of you and all of your efforts to draw nearer to Him. He will bless you as you keep His commandments. Of these things I testify in the name of Jesus Christ, amen.

I love you all! Have a great week!

Con Amor,
Hermana Kendrick
