The Atonement Of Christ
Hola todos!
I hope that you are all doing well!
This last week we stopped teaching a lot of our friends. Unfortunately, we haven't been able to get into contact with Alberto for 2 weeks. He also hasn't been coming to church. We aren't sure what happened with him. Sarah and Angel told us that they are too busy to continue meeting with us. Jazmín also said that she is too busy right now because of her crazy work schedule. Although its hard to stop teaching them, I know that they will be ready someday in the future.
We had a few visits with the members in our ward to get to know them and to help them continue strengthening their faith in Jesus Christ. We visited the Whitmer family. Brother Whitmer is the Elders Quorum President. His son just started his mission in Nebraska about a month ago. We also visited the Taylor family. Sister Taylor is the Young Women's President. We are trying to work more with her and see how we can help the young women in the ward. The members here are amazing and I absolutely love them. They are eager to help with missionary work and its been so fun to have them get involved.
Elder Alicea and Elder Davis, the missionaries that we share our ward with, recently started teaching a lady named Zenaida. The boudaries of our areas changed a little bit, so Zenaida is now in our area. We had a lesson with the Elders and Zenaida so that she could get to know us and we could start teaching her. The Gonzalez couple also joined us. Zenaida was a little surprised to see 6 missionaries show up on her doorstep haha. It was an awesome lesson and the Spirit was there. It was neat to have 3 different sets of missionaries all together in one lesson. In our next visit with Zenaida, we also starting teaching her niece Kimberly. They both came to Stake Conference on Saturday night and really enjoyed it. Zenaida works on Sundays so it was awesome for her to have the opportunity to come on Saturday. We are hoping that she will be able to talk to her boss this week and change her schedule a little bit so that she can start coming on Sundays.
One night last week, we went to an apartment complex to visit one of our friends. There were a bunch of young kids sitting on the stairs that we needed to walk up. We said hi to them and they started talking to us. Some of them said that the missionaries used to visit them. They were so excited to talk to us and started following us around as we knocked on different doors. We went back a few days later and all of the kids came running up to us. They asked if we had any Jesus stickers. We didn't have stickers, but we gave them all pass along cards with pictures of Christ. They are so cute! We now have a little posse when we go to that apartment complex haha.
During Stake Conference this past weekend, one of the speakers shared a quote from President Boyd K. Packer that says "The Atonement leaves no tracks, no traces. What it fixes is fixed. It just heals, and what it heals stays healed." This quote made me think of a BYU Devotional given by Elder Holland titled "Remember Lot's Wife." Elder Holland said "When something is over and done with, when it has been repented of as fully as it can be repented of, when life has moved on as it should and a lot of other wonderfully good things have happened since then, it is not right to go back and open up some ancient wound that the Son of God Himself died trying to heal." He continued by saying that when repentance is sincere and "when honest effort is being made to progress, we are guilty of the greater sin if we keep remembering and recalling and rebashing someone with their earlier mistakes—and that 'someone' might be ourselves." I testify that these words are true. The Atonement of Jesus Christ is the greatest gift that we have been given. It doesn't only make it so that we can be forgiven of our sins; it erases them completely. I plead with you to allow the Atonement of Jesus Christ to heal you. Once you have sincerely repented, move forward, and allow others to do the same. I know that Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ love you. There are much better things ahead of us than any that lay behind. I testify of these things in the name of Jesus Christ. Amen.
I love you all! Have an amazing week!
Con Amor,
