Small And Simple Things

Hola hola!

Last week we had our interviews with the Fisks and our zone leaders. During my interview with President Fisk, he asked me how Hermana McInnes and I were feeling about her going to Ecuador. I was confused because we had gotten her Visa, but we hadn’t received any other information. President Fisk said that the mission travel office had already sent him Hermana McInnes’ flight plans. I was very surprised. Somehow, the flight plans weren’t sent to Hermana McInnes, so she was also shocked when she found out. She will be flying out next week on transfer day. We both knew that this would happen, but it feels a little weird now that we know that its for real.

One night last week, we felt prompted to do some finding on a street named Delcoa Drive. As we were getting out of the car, there was a women walking towards us with her dog. We felt like we should talk to her, so we did. She ended up saying that she wasn’t really interested. She spoke english, but we asked her if she knew anyone on that street who spoke spanish. She told us that there were spanish speakers who live in the houses at the end of the street. We started walking to the end of the street and saw some in the driveway of the last house. We started talking to the man, but he was busy cleaning his car so he told us to go talk to his wife. Her name was Ibon. We talked to her for a minute, and she told us that she was familiar with the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. She said that she was interested in learning more, and we set up a visit for the next day. We went back for the visit and started by getting to know her a little bit. She told us that she has a few friends that go to an english ward close by and she had actually gone to church with them a couple of times. She said that she really likes our beliefs and that she had been telling her husband and her mom for the past 5 years that she wanted to go to church. She had a whole bunch of questions and we were able to teach her a little bit about the Restoration of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. We invited her to church, and she was super excited. She came to church yesterday and brought her husband and two kids. It was amazing to see them all there as a family! She is excited to finally start learning and continue coming to church.

Last night, we had the incredible opportunity to go to the Why I Believe event with Marjorie, the woman who was baptized a few weeks ago. It was amazing to be there with her as President and Sister Fisk talked about why they believe in Jesus Christ. We also walked around the Phoenix Temple grounds afterwards. Marjorie loved it and she kept telling us how happy she is to be baptized and have the knowledge of the gospel of Jesus Christ. She truly inspires me.

One of my favorite scriptures that we have been sharing with some of the members in our ward this last week is Alma 37:6. It says, "Now ye may suppose that this is foolishness in me; but behold I say unto you, that by small and simple things are great things brought to pass; and small means in many instances doth confound the wise." When I think about this scripture, I think about plants. Plants need to consistently be given a little bit of water in order to grow. We can’t just pour a whole bunch of water on a plant and not water it again for a month but expect it to grow. This concept relates to our spiritual growth. There are small and simple things that we can do every day like praying and reading the scriptures. There are also weekly things like attending church and going to the temple. These small and simple things grow our testimonies little by little and strengthen us. It can be easy to feel like these small and simple things don’t make a difference because we often don’t immediately see the spiritual growth. However, after a period of time of doing these things, we can look back and see the change in us. I would like to invite you all to think about one small and simple thing that you can start doing this week to strengthen your relationship with Jesus Christ then act on that. I know that as we do the small and simple things, we will see great spiritual growth in ourselves. I know that it is by doing these small and simple things that we become more like Jesus Christ each day. I know that He loves you. He is mindful of you, and He will help you to reach your full potential. I bear my testimony to you in His name, Jesus Christ. Amen.

I love you all!

Con Amor,
Hermana Kendrick
