Scorpions

Hola hola!

I hope that you are all doing great!

I saw my first scorpion here last week. At the end of P-Day, we were all getting ready to go when Hermana McInnes said "ummm hermanas." There was a baby scorpion on the bathroom floor. We didn't know what to do with it, so we called the senior missionary couple that lives in our same apartment complex. They came over and smacked it with a shoe haha then used their blacklight to check the rest of our apartment for scorpions. I didn't know it was that easy. A man came to our apartment today to spray for bugs, so hopefully we won't see anymore.

Marjorie got baptized on Saturday. We were able to eat dinner with her and her kids a couple of days before the baptism. Her kids don't live here in Arizona and are members of other churches, but they came to support her. Marjorie was super excited because she didn't think that they were going to come. The baptismal service started off a little crazy because we were given keys to the stake center but then realized that we didn't have keys to access the baptismal font or computer rooms. We finally got everything figured out and someone came that had a master key. The baptism was incredible. Lots of ward members, family, and friends came to support Marjorie. She had waited over a year for her doctor to allow her to be baptized. Marjorie's daughter gave a speech about the amazing changes that she has seen in her mom over the last couple of years. Marjorie looked so happy, and the Spirit in the room was strong. You could feel the love that God has for her. It was a very special day.

Hermana Van Alfen's dad served a mission in Italy and loved a dish called Arincine. He now makes it for his family. Hermana Van Alfen taught us how to make it, and we made a bunch during lunch one day. Its like a cheesy rice ball that is dipped in breadcrumbs and deep fried. Its pretty good haha. We dropped Hermana Van Alfen off at the mission home on Wednesday night then she flew out Thursday morning. She is amazing, and I learned so much from her just within the week that we were companions.

We started teaching a man named Elias. He is going through some really hard things in his life right now and was looking online for help when he came across a form to request a visit from missionaries. He has a strong desire to get closer to God and has come to church the past two Sundays. He told us that he feels like his life is getting better just within the past two weeks. He's amazing, and I'm so excited for Him to continue improving his life by improving his relationship with God.

In a General Conference talk given by President James E. Faust in October 2001 titled The Atonement: Our Greatest Hope, he talks about the Atonement of Jesus Christ and shares a story that was originally told by President Gordon B. Hinckley. It is a parable to help us better understand the Atonement of Christ. I would like to invite you all to read or listen to this talk by President Faust and specifically focus on this parable. After doing so, think about one thing that you can do this week to show your gratitude for what Jesus Christ has done for you. I testify that the Atonement of Jesus Christ is the greatest act of love that has ever been performed. Jesus Christ suffered and died for you personally. He made it possible for each one of us to repent and change to become more like Him. Only through His Atonement can we reach our fullest potential. I bear my testimony to you in His name, Jesus Christ. Amen.

I love you all!

Con Amor,
Hermana Kendrick
