Happy Mother's Day!

Hola todos!

Happy Mother's Day yesterday! I hope that it was a wonderful day for you all.

Last week, another sister completed her mission, so Hermana Iputi got transferred to finish out this transfer with that sister's companion. It was super unexpected. Now it's just me and Hermana Cruz. Sister Iputi was so much fun, and she will definitely be missed. Hermana Cruz is amazing too, and I'm excited to continue working with her.

We had a visit with Camilo last week to teach him about the Plan of Salvation. A member in our ward named Hermano Morales came with us. Camilo is so receptive to the gospel, and it was an amazing lesson. As Hermano Morales was bearing his testimony of the Atonement of Jesus Christ, he said that he doesn't like to say that Christ was killed because at any point, Christ could've removed Himself from the cross. He had the power to do that. Hermano Morales said that instead of saying that Christ was killed, he says that He died or gave His life. Hermano Morales' testimony helped me to understand the Atonement of Jesus Christ in a deeper way. Yes, the people nailed Christ to the cross. But, in the end, only Christ could give His life. His Atonement truly was the greatest act of love.

We also had a visit with Carlos and taught him about the Plan of Salvation. We have gotten to know him really well, and the lessons with him are so fun because its like we are teaching one of our best friends. It's amazing how prepared he is to have the gospel in his life! We talked about how we must be baptized to enter into the highest degree of glory in heaven. He asked us some questions about baptism then we asked how he feels about it. He told us that he understands how important it is. We invited him to be baptized on May 27th and he said yes! He is so ready to be baptized, and I'm so excited for him. We just found out that there is a bunch of stuff going on with the stake that day though so we might have to move the baptism. Carlos also came to church this Sunday and loved it!

On Wednesday, we did a service activity at GCU with our zone. It was a prayer breakfast for the Police and Fire Departments here. We helped to set up, greet, and clean up. It was a really neat event that they do every year to unite people together in prayer. They have leaders from a bunch of different churches come to offer prayers for different departments and groups of people.

You'll never believe it. Guess who finally ate an actual hamburger while on her mission. Yep... me. We've eaten ground beef on tacos and stuff, but I hadn't actually been fed a hamburger until this last week. The first one that I ever ate was on the night that I got set apart as a missionary. I won't say that I hate them, but I still don't enjoy them either haha.

The Relief Society in the ward had a party last Tuesday to celebrate Mother's Day. Then the whole ward had a party last night. Let me tell you, this ward knows how to party. A mariachi band was going around to all of the tables and playing music. Then the primary did a musical number and danced to the song Un Poco Loco from the movie Coco. A few ward members also sang, then they played music for everyone to dance. I hate to say it but Spanish parties put English parties to shame haha.

As I was reflecting on Mother's Day this year, I read a General Conference talk given in October 2015 by Elder Jeffrey R. Holland titled Behold Thy Mother. In his talk, Elder Holland says "No love in mortality comes closer to approximating the pure love of Jesus Christ than the selfless love a devoted mother has for her child." I know that this is true. I am eternally grateful for all that my mother has done for me and continues to do for me. I am thankful for all of the amazing women in my life who have helped shape me into the person that I am today. I hope that you all had a wonderful Mother's Day and that you were able to help your mothers and the other women in your lives feel loved.

I love you all!! Have an amazing week!

Con Amor,
Hermana Kendrick
