Carlos Is Baptized!
Hola hola!
I hope that you are all doing well!
Carlos was baptized and confirmed on Sunday, and it was amazing! A bunch of ward members came to support him. We asked Hermano Bustillos to perform the baptism and confirmation, and he was so excited. Carlos didn't have any family members there with him, but Hermano Bustillos and the rest of the ward are truly like his family. He is so loved by everyone here. Seeing Carlos come up out of the water after being baptized and being there as he received the Holy Ghost was incredible. Hermana Cruz and I couldn't stop smiling. I feel so blessed to have been one of the people that taught Carlos and helped him to make this first covenant with God. He has such a sweet spirit and an incredible amount of faith in Jesus Christ.
Carlos has been to church every Sunday since we started teaching him. This last Saturday, he called to tell us that his boss was making him work on Sunday and he wouldn't be able to come to church. He felt so bad that he couldn't keep his promise of keeping the Sabbath Day holy. Hermana Cruz and I were sad that he wouldn't be able to come to church, especially the day of his baptism. After getting off the phone with him, we prayed that somehow he would be able to come. Later that night, we were getting ready for bed when Carlos sent a message saying that his boss just called him to say that he didn't need to work on Sunday anymore. It was a miracle! He was able to come to church the next day, and Hermano Bustillos sat next to him during Sacrament meeting. I was reminded once again that God is so mindful of each one of us.
I had an exchange last week with Sister Borg in her area. We had a visit with a lady named Sister McPhail. She lives in a nursing home, so we had to sign in when we got there. As we were signing in, a lady sitting close by asked if we were LDS. We turned around to talk to her and she said that her son is a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Her name was Cathi. She had been wanting to meet with missionaries but didn't know how to contact us. We were able to set up a visit with her for later that day. We went back for the visit and started by getting to know her a little more. She already knew a lot about the church, but she was confused about a few things. We began teaching her about the Restoration of the church. The Spirit in the room was so strong, and Cathi seemed to be asking all of the right questions. She was so sweet and genuinely interested in learning. We were able to set up a visit for the next day too! I don't know what ended up happening with the next visit since I exchanged back to my area, but I'm sure that it ended up being another amazing lesson!
The Eyres invited Hermana Cruz and I, along with some other missionaries, to their house for a BBQ on Memorial Day. It was super fun to be able to spend time with them before they get released in a month. They are amazing!
This week is transfer week! We just got our transfer news last night. Hermana Cruz and I will be staying together in La Joya for another transfer. I'm so excited to stay here with Hermana Cruz. I love her and this area so much!
Hermana Cruz and I have been really trying to make sure that our friends and the people in our ward know how to pray and that they understand the importance of praying. I don't remember if it was someone at church or a talk from General Conference that I listened to a little while ago, but someone was explaining that a lot of times we think of prayer as the least that we can do. However, we should really think of it as the most that we can do. When we pray, we are literally talking to Heavenly Father. Prayer is powerful, and praying with a commitment to act on the answers that we receive brings miracles. As I have been thinking about prayer over the last few weeks, I am amazed that the God of the universe has not only provided us with a way to communicate with Him, but He commands us to do so. He loves us and wants to hear from us. I would like to invite each of you to make praying a priority when you wake up in the morning and before you go to bed at night. I know that by doing so, you will receive the guidance that you need throughout your day and be able to see all of the ways that God's hand was in your day. I testify that God loves you. He wants you to pray to Him. He will answer your prayers in His perfect timing and in the way that He knows is best for you. I bear my testimony to you in the name of Jesus Christ. Amen.
I love you all! Have an amazing week!
Con Amor,
