Welcome To La Joya!

Hola todos!

I hope that you are all doing well!

I made it to La Joya! Its about 30 minutes South of my last area. The ward here is much bigger than the Solano Ward that I just came from. It's been fun to meet so many new people. We had a few member visits last week for me and Hermana Cruz to start getting to know the members in the ward. The members here are amazing, and I already love them will my whole heart. Hermana Iputi and Hermana Cruz are wonderful missionaries, and I am learning so much from them.

We have a new friend named Maria. Last week, we taught her the Restoration of the Gospel, and she loved hearing Joseph Smith's First Vision. She just kept saying "wow." It was incredible. The Holy Ghost truly touched her heart, and she knew that what we were saying is true. We also have a new friend named Andrea. We taught her the Restoration of the Gospel too. She is the niece of one of the members in our ward, so she was familiar with a lot of what we talked about. She has already come to church a few times with her aunt, and she has a powerful testimony of Jesus Christ. She shared her testimony with us about the things that we talked about, and it was amazing. The room was filled with the Spirit.

We ate dinner with the Bustillos family one night last week. They have a pet pig named Bacon, and it sits when you tell it to sit! I was amazed. We each took turns telling Bacon to sit and giving him a treat. It was great haha.

Today, I read 1 Nephi Chapter 4 in the Book of Mormon. In this chapter, Nephi and his brothers have gone back to Jerusalem to get the brass plates. It was important for Nephi and his family to have the brass plates because their geneology, the law of Moses, and other important revelation from God was written on the plates. This information needed to be handed down to future generations to help them continue following Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ. Laban, the man who had the plates refused to give them to Nephi and his brothers. Because there was no other way, the Lord, through the Holy Ghost, prompted Nephi to kill Laban so that Nephi could get the brass plates. Nephi was hesitant to follow this prompting because he didn't want to kill another person. However, he heeded the promptings of the Spirit and killed Laban so that future generations could have the word of God. As I was reading this chapter, I realized that there may be times when the Holy Ghost will prompt us to do things that are out of our comfort zone. Although it won't be as extreme as killing another person, it may be things such as sharing the gospel with a friend, bearing your testimony at church on Fast Sunday, helping a stranger in need, attending church for the first time, or returning to church after being inactive for a period of time. I know that although it may seem uncomfortable or difficult to follow these promptings, they are Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ's efforts to help us draw closer Them and to help others do the same. These promptings come from Them. I would like to invite you to act on any promptings from the Holy Ghost that you have received recently. I would also like to invite you to never put off or ignore a prompting from the Holy Ghost. I know that following these promptings brings miracles in our own lives and in the lives of those around us. I know that every good thing comes from Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ. I know that They will play as big of a role in our lives as we allow Them to. I know that they love you more than you can even comprehend and that following them is the only way to have joy in this life and in the world to come. I bear my testimony of these things in the name of Jesus Christ. Amen.

I love you all! Have an amazing week!

Con Amor,
Hermana Kendrick
