Seafood Buffet

HOLA!

We'll start with the rough interaction of the week first. On Saturday, my companions and I decided that we would choose a neighborhood that had lots of people outside and walk down the neighborhood to talk to the people. There was a lady sitting on her front patio that looked really nice. As we walked by her house, she said hi and asked if we were Jehovah's Witnesses. We stopped and explained that we are missionaries for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Let's just say that the conversation went down hill from there. She told us how she knows all about our church and that we are out here preaching false doctrine. She made it very clear that we are not going to Heaven. After she finished talking, she didn't want to hear anything we had to say and told us to be on our way. We turned around and kept walking through the neighborhood. Although this interaction was tough, I learned that when you have a firm testimony, it doesn't matter what other people say because you know the truth. As it says in Helaman 5:12, when we build our foundation on Jesus Christ, we cannot fall. I realized how important it is to strengthen our testimonies each day because we never know when they will be tested.

We ate at a restaurant called Blue Pacific Seafood Buffet with some members in our ward. It was crazy. You'll never believe it but I ate a crawfish, clam, oyster, octopus, and sushi! I tried it all. I will not be eating it again... but I tried it! The gift of tongues truly does apply to food too.

We started teaching a man named Isauro. He had talked to missionaries a long time ago, but ended up getting busy and not having time to meet with them anymore. Some other missionaries recently contacted him, and he said that he would be interested in having lessons again. We went over to his house for a lesson and his wife was there too. She told us that she is actually a member of our church but is inactive. They both said that they want to come to church and keep having lessons!

We had a "Sistertine" activity with the sisters in the mission and President and Sister Eyre. We went to the temple and did an endowment session. It was incredible to be in the temple with 50 other sister missionaries. The Spirit was so strong, especially in the celestial room. It was an amazing experience. After we went to the temple, we all ate lunch at a church and listened to talks from Sister Eyre and another woman named Shawni. They talked about the importance of reaching out to others and making people feel loved. It was a very special day.

As a mission, we are focusing on studying the Atonement of Jesus Christ this transfer. I listened to a conference talk by President James E. Faust called The Atonement: Our Greatest Hope. It is a powerful talk about the importance of believing in and accepting the Atonement of Jesus Christ. In it, he shares one of my favorite stories that is used to help us better understand Christ's sacrifice. I encourage you all to read or listen to this talk. I know that as we learn more about Christ's Atonement, we will come to know Him better and our love for Him will increase. He loves each one of us so much and He wants us to draw closer to Him.

I love you all!

Con Amor,
Hermana Kendrick
