2023

Feliz Año Nuevo!

The area I'm in right now is split into two parts, north and south. Hermana Morgan and I have the north part, and a companionship of elders have the south part. Alexis, the guy we started teaching in Starbucks, lives in the south part, so we had to refer him to the elders for them to teach him. The elders have already had a few lessons with him, and they said that the lessons went really well! We are all in the same ward, so we got to see Alexis at church yesterday. It was awesome!

We have an app called Area Book that all missionaries use to report on people they are teaching and people who have been taught by missionaries before. We were knocking some doors at an apartment complex, and we saw on Area Book that a guy named Chano lived in one of the apartments and had met with missionaries before. We were able to contact him and set up a lesson. We had the lesson though phone call a few days ago. After the lesson, we asked him if he had a Book of Mormon. He told us that he didn't, so we asked if we could take him one. He said of course, so we drove over to his apartment. As we were walking up to his door, we saw him standing outside. He said that he had been waiting for us. He was so excited for us to come and give him a Book of Mormon. We have another lesson with him tomorrow!

I had an exchange this week. I went with Sister Marusiak to her area for a day. We went to a Starbucks to do some of our studies. About 5 minutes after we sat down, a guy walked in. He looked at us and said "Sisters! You are just the people I needed to see!" He pulled up a chair and sat down by us. He told us that he is a member of the church, but his wife is not. He was wondering if we could visit her. We talked to him for a little while and got his phone number. He told us to just give him a call. I guess we need to keep doing our studies at Starbucks haha. That's the second time we've been there at just the right time!

We had a lesson with María, Yamileth, and Yoanna. They are the ones who were recently baptized. We talked to them about temples and told them that they can now get temple recommends. A lady from our ward named Hermana Valazquez came to the lesson with us. She talked about her conversion story and why she loves going to the temple. Hermana Morgan and I had to leave to go to another visit, but Hermana Valazquez stayed to talk with María and her family a little longer. A few days ago, we had another lesson with María and her family. We started talking about callings within the church and asked if they would be willing to accept callings if the bishop asked them. María said yes and told us that Yamileth was already preparing for her calling. Hermana Morgan and I were a little confused about what she meant by that. Then Maria said "yeah, her service." Hermana Morgan and I were still confused. Yamileth said "my missionary service." Hermana Morgan and I were shocked. We didn't even know what to say. Yamileth is wanting to serve a mission! Hermana Valazquez must have said something really great after Hermana Morgan and I left the lesson. We told Yamileth how happy we are for her and talked a little bit more about missions. I'm so excited for her! She will be an amazing missionary!

Last week, I listened to the General Conference talk Are You Still Willing? by Elder Kevin W. Pearson. It is powerful. In it, Elder Pearson talks about how we must learn the will of the Lord and do it. Our life on earth is an opportunity for us to prove our willingness to follow Christ. I invite you all to read or listen to this talk sometime this week. I know that as our willingness to follow Christ increases, so will our desire to do all that we can to become like Him.

Don't forget to make goals for this year! I love you all!

Con Amor,
Hermana Kendrick
