Jorge!!

Feliz Diciembre!

It's been cloudy and raining this week. I love the rain, so it's been awesome! Arizona doesn't do too well with rain though haha. The people here don't know how to drive when the roads are wet and pretty much everything floods.

We met a guy named Jorge a few weeks ago. He told us that he was interested in meeting with us, but he had a lot going on with his family so he didn't have time that week. Last week, we decided that we would stop by and see how he and his family were doing. We knocked on his apartment and he wasn't there. We knocked on a few other doors then started walking back to the car. We saw a guy standing at the mailboxes of the apartment complex. My companion and I felt like we needed to stop and talk to him. His name was Michael. He told us that he is religious, but he just moved here so he hasn't found a church to go to yet. He said that he was interested in learning more about our church. He spoke English so we got his number and told him that we would have the English missionaries reach out to him. We were walking back to our car again and we got to the parking lot when we saw a guy and his family get out of their car and start walking to their apartment. We couldn't see the guy's face but we asked him if he by chance knew a guy named Jorge. As we walked closer to him, we recognized him. Then he said yeah, that's me. It was Jorge! It was perfect timing. We were able to set up a time to come back and visit him and his family! We were so glad that we listened to the prompting to stop and talk to Michael. Not only was he interested in learning more, but if we hadn't stopped to talk to him we would've barely missed Jorge.

My companion and I volunteered at the giving machines at a park in Glendale. It was so much fun. We were able to meet lots of new people and teach them about the giving machines. The park was all lit up with Christmas lights. It was so pretty! It's still weird seeing palm trees covered in Christmas lights haha.

My sister, Kailey, told me about a general conference talk given by Elder Holland called The First Great Commandment. It is so powerful! In it, Elder Holland talks about how loving God is the first great commandment. He says that the crowning characteristic of love is loyalty. Elder Holland tells the story from John 21 when Jesus Christ asks Peter if he loves Him. Then Christ tells Peter to feed His sheep. In other words, Christ tells Peter to share the gospel. No matter how many times I hear this story, I get emotional. It always makes me think about how I can better show my love for Jesus Christ. I invite you all to watch or read this talk from Elder Holland and think of something you can do to show Christ that you love Him. I promise that as you do this thing, your faith and love for Him will increase.

I love you all!

Love,
Hermana Kendrick
