Christmas Miracle
Feliz Navidad!
We helped make a piñata! Piñatas are a Mexican tradition for Christmas. A lady in our ward named Hermana Guzman showed us how to make them. She said that the spikes on the piñata represent the sins of the world and the center represents Jesus Christ. When you hit the piñata, you hit all of the sins (spikes), in order to get to Jesus Christ (the center).
President Eyre likes us to be out of our apartments by 10:00 a.m. and to do our studies in public areas, rather than just at our apartments. That way, people can come talk to us if they want to. On the morning of Christmas Eve, my companion and I decided to do some of our studies at a Starbucks near the Metrocenter. It was really busy inside, but there was one open table with two chairs. We sat down and started reading through some different things. After being there for a little while, the guy who had been sitting next to us leaned over and asked "do you mind telling me what you're reading?" We explained that we are missionaries and we were reading through some different missionary manuals. He asked which church we are from and we told him. Then he smiled and told us that he keeps running into missionaries from The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and that he thinks its a sign. He said his name is Alexis. He told us that he feels lost and that he has been searching for something to help him feel peace. He said that family is very important to him and that there is a lot going on with his family right now. He told us that it makes him sad that the world today doesn't understand the importance of families. We explained that our church values the family unit and that families are very important to God. He asked us where our church is at and what time it starts. Then he asked when we could meet again to continue teaching him. We gave him the information for the church and set up a visit for this week. He asked what material we could give him to study. We gave him a Book of Mormon and sent him a link to The Family: A Proclamation to the World. He told us that he was excited to read both of these and continue learning. When we finished talking, we asked if we could say a prayer with him. We explained how to pray, and he said that he would offer the prayer. After he prayed, he told us that he had poured out his heart to God and that he felt peace. It was amazing! I couldn't believe what had just happened. Alexis found us and asked us to teach him. In a way, he even asked us for a Book of Mormon. God led me and Hermana Morgan to a crowed and noisy Starbucks on Christmas Eve because He knew that Alexis needed to hear our message. This experience reminded me how aware God is of each one of His children. He loves us all so much.
I love you all and I hope that you had a wonderful Christmas! I invite you to watch this video about the birth of Jesus Christ and think of something you can do to keep the spirit of Christmas with you throughout the year. I promise that as you strive to keep the spirit of Christmas with you, you will feel Christ's love for you more abundantly and have a greater ability to love others. The spirit of Christmas is truly the spirit of Christ.
Love,
